Vietnam Braces for Widespread Thunderstorms, Extreme Weather Warnings Issued

Vietnam is currently experiencing widespread heavy thunderstorms on September 11, influenced by multiple weather systems. According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, cold air masses are affecting many parts of the country, while the presence of a tropical convergence zone is contributing to unstable weather conditions. Specifically, areas from southern Nghe An province to Da Nang city, and eastern Quang Ngai province and the northern Central Highlands are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall of 30-60mm, with some locations potentially exceeding 100mm. The southern Central Highlands and southern regions are forecast to experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with rainfall ranging from 40-70mm, and locally exceeding 120mm. The risk of intense rainfall exceeding 100mm per hour is also a concern. In addition, scattered showers and thunderstorms, with rainfall of 10-30mm and locally heavy rain up to 50mm, are possible in the northern regions, Thanh Hoa province, and northern Nghe An province. Thunderstorms accompanied by phenomena such as lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind are expected in these areas. This adverse weather poses risks to agricultural production, potentially causing trees to fall, damaging houses, transportation infrastructure, and public facilities. Flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas, as well as flooding in low-lying regions, are also a concern. Strong winds and high waves along the coast may affect maritime activities. In Hanoi, cloudy skies and scattered heavy rain are expected, with temperatures ranging from 22-24°C at night and 29-31°C during the day. Southern Vietnam is forecast to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall across most provinces over the next three days.
