Calapan Police: No Foul Play Suspected in Elderly Man's Death

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — Police have dismissed claims of a ransacked home and foul play in the death of an elderly man found in his residence, stating that initial investigations found no signs of forced entry or robbery. In a telephone interview on Saturday, Calapan City Police Station chief Lt. Col. Michael Caraggayan said Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) found the couple’s personal belongings, including their cell phones and wallets, untouched inside the house. “Based on our investigation, the male senior citizen’s body was already in an advanced stage of decomposition, indicating that he may have died several days to a week before he was discovered,” Caraggayan said. The body of the 85-year-old man was found on Friday inside the couple’s home in Barangay Suqui after neighbors reported a foul odor coming from the residence. His 86-year-old wife, who is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, was found unconscious inside the house. She was rushed to the Oriental Mindoro Provincial Hospital and remains under medical treatment. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
