Cambodian Police Enhance Cooperation with Australia on Cybercrime

The Cambodian National Police have maintained close cooperation with the Australian Federal Police (AFP) in investigating transnational crimes and exchanging information, particularly concerning cybercrime, from 2025 to June 2026. According to the spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, Mr. Touch Sopheak, during this period, the National Police received five investigation requests from Australia related to technological fraud. Among these requests, two were concerning cryptocurrency fraud. In one case, an investigation into two email addresses was requested, and the findings indicated that these emails originated from Google servers in the United States. In another case, an investigation into an IP address owner was requested, but due to a lack of further leads, the AFP requested the closure of the investigation. Of the remaining requests, two involved checking immigration records for six suspects, which revealed that the suspects had not entered Cambodia. In a separate case, the AFP requested assistance in investigating three locations, and the Cambodian Department of Technical Crime Prevention is currently collaborating with the AFP on this investigation. The fifth request pertained to an online extortion case. The victim was identified and returned to Australia, but Cambodian authorities could not obtain information about the suspect as the victim had communicated with the suspect online. Mr. Touch Sopheak stated that the Transnational Crime Team (TCT) of the National Police is continuing its close cooperation with the AFP on technological fraud investigations, following Cambodia's recent successful large-scale crackdown on cybercrime. He further noted that Cambodian police maintain good cooperation with various countries and international organizations. Notably, from September 23rd to 24th, the Ministry of Interior will present the reasons behind the complexities of online scams, the outcomes of combating technological fraud, and share experiences and the commitment to eradicating online scams, emphasizing that Cambodia is not a haven for technological fraud.
