Cambodian Senator Emphasizes Inseparability of Buddhism and State

Khoun Khundee, a Senator and Head of the Working Group for the Base of Kampong Svay District, stated that the connection between Buddhism and the state cannot be separated. She made these remarks during a ceremony to donate alms and offerings for the rainy season to 40 pagodas in Kampong Svay District, Kampong Thom Province, held on July 26, 2026, at Wat Put Rangsey, also known as Wat Trapeang Preilit, in Trapeang Ruessei Commune, Kampong Svay District, Kampong Thom Province. The ceremony was also attended by Senators, National Assembly members, government officials, Kampong Thom Provincial Council members, civil servants, and a large number of citizens. Senator Khoun continued that the organization of this ceremony was the result of the solidarity of the leadership and the working group supporting Kampong Svay District. It reflects the progress, faith, and deep reverence for Buddhism, which is the state religion, as well as demonstrating the spirit of solidarity, friendship, and support from our citizens. She expressed her profound gratitude to the abbots, followers, philanthropists, and leaders at all levels who have strived and cooperated according to their faith, with immense joy and happiness. Furthermore, the donation of offerings for the rainy season signifies social solidarity and support for promoting Buddhism, the state religion, and is also to dedicate great merit to the souls of ancestors, relatives of five generations, and the heroic soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation and homeland. Senator Khoun continued that what we have today is due to the peace and national development in all sectors, a legacy inherited from our outstanding national leader, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate. It should be noted that each pagoda received a pair of rainy season offerings, 50 kg of rice, 2 cases of mineral water, 2 cases of juice, 1 bottle of soy sauce, 1 bottle of fish sauce, 1 can of fish, 1 cup of soybean paste, and a certain amount of cash.
