US Trains Cambodian Law Enforcement on Anti-Human Trafficking Measures

The US Embassy announced on August 6 that it has brought in specialists from the United States to support Cambodia's efforts in combating human trafficking, document forgery, and transnational crime. This initiative aims to bolster Cambodia's capabilities in law enforcement. From July 28-30, the Diplomatic Security Service (DS) and the Office of Overseas Criminal Investigations (OCI) of the US Embassy in Phnom Penh conducted training for 80 Cambodian police officers, 50 immigration officials, and 40 airline personnel in Siem Reap province. The training was designed to enhance their capacity to identify and combat human trafficking. At the Siem Reap Provincial Police Headquarters, officers received practical training on identifying human trafficking cases, interviewing suspects and victims, detecting forged identities, ensuring officer safety, and responding to threats involving knives and other weapons. Meanwhile, training sessions at Siem Reap International Airport provided immigration officials and airline staff with knowledge on recognizing indicators of human trafficking, detecting forged identities, verifying document security features, and preventing forgery. The United States is strengthening practical law enforcement cooperation with Cambodia to combat human trafficking, enhance border security, and achieve tangible results. By equipping Cambodian frontline officials with expertise in detecting forgery, disrupting transnational criminal networks, and protecting vulnerable individuals, this cooperation contributes to making both Cambodia and the United States more secure.
