Shooting at youth welfare facility in Germany leaves 6 dead

AYEYARWADDY TIMES June 30, A shooting incident occurred on Monday at a youth welfare facility in northern Germany, resulting in the deaths of six people, and the suspect has been apprehended, according to the police. Five people, including four women and one man, died at the scene of the shooting in Stade, while another person died after arriving at the hospital, police said. Several people were injured in the incident, some seriously, according to the German news agency dpa, but the exact number of injured and their identities have not yet been released by the police. The shooting took place inside the facility on Dunkerstraße, south of the city center, police said. The facility is a place where pregnant women or young mothers with children can temporarily stay. The motive for the shooting is not yet known. The main suspect, the shooter, has been arrested, and two other individuals suspected of involvement in the incident are being questioned according to police procedures, the statement said. Video footage taken after the shooting shows a large number of police officers, emergency rescue teams, and ambulances arriving on the street in a residential area. Although mass shootings are rare in Germany due to stricter gun laws compared to the United States, they do occur occasionally.
