Cambodia Braces for Tropical Storm Dujuan, Authorities Urge Caution

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology announced on the morning of September 17 that Cambodia will be affected by a new tropical storm, named Dujuan (T2625), from today until September 24, 2026. This storm is expected to bring rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds to approximately 50% to 70% of the country's land area. The ministry has urged the public to exercise high caution regarding these weather phenomena, especially for those traveling by land and water. The new storm has developed from a low-pressure system over the western Pacific Ocean and is influencing the southwest monsoon. Its effects are expected to extend across the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, South China Sea, Mekong River basin, the Cambodian sea, and the Kingdom of Cambodia. However, Cambodia is not situated directly in the storm's path. According to the ministry's forecast: Lowland areas, including the provinces of Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Prey Veng, Kandal, Takeo, Svay Rieng, and Phnom Penh capital, are expected to experience rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds covering 50% of the area. Highland areas, including the provinces of Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, the Dangrek mountain range, and the Cardamom mountains, are expected to experience rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds covering 70% of the area. Coastal areas, including the provinces of Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep, and the Bokor mountain range, are expected to experience rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds covering 70% of the area. Significant wave activity is also anticipated, with average wave heights ranging from a minimum of 0.50 meters to a maximum of 1.75 meters. Based on these forecasts, the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology is reiterating its call for the public to remain highly vigilant.
