IKN Development Requires Long Breath and Teamwork, Says Authority Head

Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (IKN) Basuki Hadimuljono has drawn lessons from the recent 2026 World Cup final match, relating them to the development of Indonesia's new capital. Basuki observed the dramatic Spain-Argentina match, noting that Spain's victory was due to their sustained pressure until the final whistle. He applied this lesson to the IKN project, stating, "Building Nusantara requires long breaths, teamwork, and the belief that as long as the game is not over, opportunities are always there." This sentiment underscores the need for patience, collaboration, and persistent optimism in the complex, long-term endeavor of building a new capital city. Indonesia aims to establish IKN as the political capital by 2028, as stipulated in Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 79 of 2025. The IKN Authority is currently accelerating infrastructure development, with the judicial and legislative areas, including the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, Judicial Commission, and House of Representatives, targeted for completion by 2028. To monitor progress, the IKN Authority conducts regular monitoring and evaluation with investors, ministries, construction service providers, consultants, and master construction managers. Out of 40 physical work packages funded by the state budget, 9 were completed by 2025, 15 are under construction, and 16 are in the auction preparation phase. These packages encompass the construction of office buildings, judicial and legislative areas, road networks, ponds, retention ponds, and drinking water piping networks.
