Cambodia Eyes $108 Million Agro-Industrial Push in Northeast, Targeting Processing and 700 Jobs

PHNOM PENH, July 29, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia is advancing three agro-industrial investment projects worth a combined $108 million in its northeastern region, targeting agricultural processing and higher-value production, with officials expecting around 700 new jobs to be created. The Northeast Investment Promotion Working Group reviewed and approved these projects at its sixth meeting on July 28, chaired by Hean Sahib, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Economy and Finance. The investments are set to cover coffee and cocoa cultivation, mixed livestock farming and a slaughterhouse, as well as the establishment of an agricultural processing factory. Together, they are expected to inject $108 million into the economy and create approximately 700 jobs in the northeast. Sahib stated that Cambodia continues to attract domestic and foreign investment despite global challenges, emphasizing the need for efficient procedures, incentives, and coordinated support. He urged ministries and provincial administrations to enhance the business environment across the four northeastern provinces through faster and more transparent facilitation. He further highlighted the government's aim to ensure projects generate wider benefits through job creation, workforce training, skills transfer, and the adoption of new technologies, not just by drawing capital into the region. Sahib called on investors receiving special incentives to implement their projects according to approved plans, with a particular focus on building production chains from primary agriculture to higher-value processing. This initiative forms part of a special program designed to encourage investment in Cambodia’s northeast and diversify economic activity by developing the region’s agricultural and agro-industrial potential, which has historically lagged in economic development.
