Cambodia Pledges Road Safety Improvements at UN, Aims to Halve Fatalities by 2030

Cambodia has reiterated its strong commitment to improving road traffic safety at a high-level meeting on road safety held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Nim Sothea, Undersecretary of State for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, reaffirmed the government's commitment to reducing road traffic deaths and injuries by at least 50% by 2030, in line with the "Global Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030" plan. The Deputy Minister also highlighted Cambodia's ongoing efforts to enhance road safety. Specific measures include improving daily commutes for factory workers, prohibiting the unsafe transportation of laborers in trucks, and establishing school safety zones. These initiatives aim to reduce traffic accidents and ensure the safety of vulnerable populations. The Cambodian government intends to advance both the development of domestic road infrastructure and the promotion of traffic safety education, in alignment with the global goals set by the United Nations. This pledge at the UN signifies Cambodia's determination to improve its domestic road conditions and engage with the international community.
