Prabowo Alludes to Post-Election Cooperation, Overcoming Political Differences
President Prabowo acknowledged political differences with Governor Anies Baswedan during the inauguration of a Jakarta LRT station, but stressed the importance of cooperation between the central and provincial governments, highlighting their roles as public servants despite electoral competition.
President Prabowo Subianto alluded to the differences in his political background with DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan during the inauguration of the Kelapa Gading-Manggarai LRT (Light Rail Transit) in Jakarta, while emphasizing the potential for cooperation between the central government and the provincial government. Speaking at the Manggarai LRT Station, Prabowo stated, "I am the President of the Republic of Indonesia leading the central government, and Brother Anies is the Governor of DKI Jakarta leading the Jakarta Provincial Government. We come from different parties, we compete in the general election, but we can work together, we can respect each other." The President further emphasized that positions such as President or Governor are mandates given by the community, and that he, Governor Anies, and Deputy Governor Rano Karno are "servants of the people." Prabowo linked the cooperation between the central and local governments to the development of public facilities, including the transportation system in Jakarta. He also publicly praised Governor Anies' performance, admitting, "I have to admit that there are great governors, yes I admit he is great, even though he is not from my party." He then urged other political parties to encourage their cadres to perform well when entrusted with government mandates. This statement is seen as a significant gesture in Indonesian politics, suggesting a willingness to build collaborative frameworks for policy implementation, even after intense electoral competition.
