PTUN Affirms Jokowi's Diploma and Transcript are Public Information, Rejects UGM's Objection

The State Administrative Court (PTUN) has reaffirmed that copies of President Joko Widodo's diploma and transcripts are public information. Consequently, an objection filed by Gadjah Mada University (UGM) has been rejected. This ruling comes amidst growing calls for transparency regarding the backgrounds of public officials and upholds the principle of information disclosure. The public disclosure of the President's academic records is expected to guarantee the public's right to know and enhance the credibility of public officials. UGM had objected to the disclosure, citing university regulations on the protection of personal information. However, the PTUN dismissed this objection, apparently deeming the academic background of an individual holding the public office of President as information of high public interest and relevance. This decision by the PTUN could set a significant precedent for the implementation of information disclosure systems in Indonesia. It is anticipated that similar demands for the disclosure of information concerning public officials may become more active in the future.
