Siem Reap Hospital Warehouse Fire Causes $10,000 in Medical Supply Losses

A fire at a warehouse of the Puok Referral Hospital in Puok district, Siem Reap province, Cambodia, has resulted in the destruction of medical supplies valued at approximately $10,000. The incident occurred around 8:30 AM on August 7th, near the Puok District Police Inspectorate, west of Puok Market, in Kok Thom village, Puok commune, Puok district. According to Puok district authorities, the fire damaged a wooden warehouse measuring 6 meters wide by 30 meters long. A specific section on the northern side, measuring 6 meters by 6 meters, was destroyed. A hospital official managing the warehouse confirmed that documents, ampoules, pills, and serums (including COVID-19 treatments) were lost, with the total estimated financial damage reaching about $10,000. Based on preliminary information from medical staff and witnesses in the vicinity, the cause of the fire is suspected to be an electrical short circuit. This incident highlights the importance of fundamental safety measures within Cambodia's healthcare infrastructure.
