Cambodia to Begin Voter Registration for 2026 Commune Election, 55-Day Process

The National Election Committee (NEC) of Cambodia announced that the process of reviewing and registering voters for the 2026 Commune Election will take place over 55 days, from October 7 to November 30, 2026, across all communes and sangkats nationwide. This is a crucial step towards the 6th mandate Commune/Sangkat Council election scheduled for June 6, 2027. NEC Chairman Prach Chan emphasized that this process is essential for preparing the voter list for the upcoming election. Specifically, the review, registration, and validation of the 2026 voter list will be conducted from October 7, 2026, to February 12, 2027, in accordance with the orders and procedures for annual voter list review and registration. The NEC will implement a computerized registration system utilizing biometric technology to identify each voter. This measure aims to ensure a high-quality, complete, accurate, secure, and up-to-date voter list. Eligible voters include Cambodian citizens who will turn 18 by the election date (born on or before June 7, 2009) and those who have moved to a new commune/sangkat. Furthermore, names of voters who have passed away, been temporarily disqualified, or relocated to a different commune/sangkat will be removed from the list based on proper supporting documents. Corrections to biographical data, such as changing polling stations within a commune/sangkat, correcting names, gender, birth dates, or updating registration documents, will also be processed upon request with valid supporting documents. Biometric data updates, including capturing photos and fingerprints, will be performed for those who registered in 2016 and 2017 but have not previously updated their biometric data. Chairman Prach Chan underscored that voter registration is the initial and most critical phase of the election process, as the voter list is an indispensable requirement.
