Provisional Government Minister Reports Chinese Nationals Entering Illegally and Engaging in Online Financial Fraud to Chinese Ambassador

Ayeyarwaddy Times July 11 It has been learned that during a meeting yesterday, the Minister of Immigration and Population of the Provisional Government, U Myint Kyaw, and the Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, H.E. Ms. Ma Jia, discussed that while Chinese nationals are entering and exiting Myanmar with various types of entry visas, some are entering illegally and working in online financial fraud operations. Minister U Myint Kyaw also stated that investigations and actions are being carried out in accordance with the law to discover and take action against Chinese nationals involved in online financial fraud after entering Myanmar illegally. It was learned that discussions were held to ensure smooth immigration matters based on the kinship and friendly relations between Myanmar and China, and regarding the legal mutual entry and exit of border area residents through border gates. It has been learned that on July 8, 239 Chinese nationals who committed illegal online gambling, online fraud, and criminal acts in the Myawaddy-Shwe Kokko area of Karen State were repatriated to their respective countries via the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge No. 2. The Provisional Government has announced that a total of 14,731 foreign nationals who entered illegally into Myawaddy Township have been detained from January 30, 2025, to July 8, 2026.
