Thailand: Social Security Board Election Set for Sept 27, Labor Minister Emphasizes Fraud Prevention

Labor Minister Julapan Amornvivat has affirmed that all necessary measures are being taken to prevent fraud and challenges to the Social Security Board (SSB) election, scheduled for September 27. Addressing concerns raised by a Member of Parliament regarding the election process, the Minister clarified the situation on social media, emphasizing facts to reassure insured individuals and employers. Minister Julapan firmly stated that the SSB election will proceed as planned on September 27, with no intention to delay or postpone the voting. He assured that all mechanisms are being expedited to ensure a transparent and fair election. Regarding an appeal to the Administrative Court, the Minister explained that this legal procedure was initiated prior to the current period and is part of the normal legal process, undertaken for thoroughness in legal and administrative matters. He reiterated that the ultimate policy objective is to successfully conduct the election on the scheduled date. Concerning the documentation requirements for corporate employers, Minister Julapan clarified that these are not intended to create obstacles but are essential for stringent verification of authorized representatives, prevention of impersonation, and closing legal loopholes that could lead to future disputes or nullification of the election. This, he stated, is a standard procedure to protect the integrity of every vote. The Minister also reported that the election management, including operational manuals for polling station committees, guidelines for ballot validity, and a system to prevent duplicate voting, is in the final stages of preparation and will be finalized and published within the timeframe.
