Manila Logs 32 New Flu-Like Cases, Surpassing Water-Borne Illnesses

MANILA, Philippines — Manila on Monday recorded 32 new influenza-like illness (ILI) cases, the highest number of new cases among the illnesses included in the city’s latest report on water-borne diseases, influenza, leptospirosis and dengue. The Manila Health Department also logged 22 new dengue cases, 15 new leptospirosis cases and one new confirmed COVID-19 case. The report comes as public health officials continue to monitor seasonal illnesses. The rise in ILI cases may be linked to changing weather patterns and sanitation concerns in densely populated urban areas. While the Philippines typically sees outbreaks of diseases like dengue and leptospirosis during the rainy season, the higher number of new ILI cases is notable. Strengthening public health infrastructure and early detection and response systems for infectious diseases remain ongoing challenges for the Philippines.
