Chin Rayot-Tachilek Border Issues Discussed for Joint Resolution

Discussions were held to jointly resolve border issues, including border trade, between Thailand's Chin Rayot District and Myanmar's Tachilek City. The meeting took place on the morning of September 23 at the office of the District General Administration Department in Tachilek City, Shan State (East), with officials from the Chin Rayot District side and officials from the Myanmar side in attendance. During the meeting, it was explained that Myanmar's arrest of cargo transporters near the Tachilek Friendship Bridge No. 1 was carried out to ensure compliance with import and export tax regulations and to prevent duty-free trade. On the Thai side, discussions were held regarding Thailand's electricity, fuel, and currency policies, which are affecting the lives of residents in the Tachilek region. Furthermore, the cases of three Thai nationals arrested in Tachilek City in March and Thai nationals arrested for illegal lottery sales in July were also discussed. Regarding these matters, it was explained that legal proceedings are underway in accordance with Myanmar's gambling and online gambling laws, and that after serving their sentences, they will be transferred back to Thailand according to the relevant procedures. Subsequently, issues concerning border land disputes, online fraud operations, and the prevention and suppression of technology-assisted crimes were also discussed. In addition, it was reported that further discussions will continue to jointly resolve issues arising in the border areas of both countries and to reduce the impact on residents and border trade.
