Vietnam to Amend Party Charter, Strengthening Institutional Foundation for Economic Development

Vietnam's Communist Party has initiated the process of revising and supplementing its Charter. This undertaking is seen as a crucial step toward harmonizing the Party's leadership with the nation's economic development. The prevailing view is that for economic growth to accelerate further, institutional frameworks must lead the way, paving the path for advancement. Emphasis is placed on achieving "clear deliverables" and "controlling progress" throughout this revision process. The Party Central Secretariat has already issued guidelines on specific matters concerning the implementation of the Party Charter, indicating a concrete progression in the revision efforts. The Communist Party of Vietnam is also actively maintaining internal discipline, having decided to expel Party members who have violated regulations. This is interpreted as an effort to enhance the Party's authority and credibility, thereby maintaining public support. Meanwhile, social issues have also surfaced domestically. In the early hours of September 16th, a tragic fire broke out in a residential building on Thụy Khuê street in Hanoi, resulting in the deaths of five individuals. Authorities are currently working to identify the victims. Under Vietnam's one-party system, the leadership of the Communist Party forms the bedrock of national governance. The revision of the Party Charter aims to update the Party's ideology and organizational operations to align with the times and further strengthen its leadership in achieving the national goal of economic growth. In recent years, Vietnam has experienced remarkable economic expansion, supported by policies such as attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) and promoting an export-oriented economic model. The revision of the Party Charter also signifies an effort to establish a more robust institutional foundation for effectively advancing these economic policies. While there are reports of China expelling and dismissing two high-ranking officials from the Party and government, this is not directly related to the Party Charter revisions within Vietnam. However, it may suggest a shared awareness of the common challenge of preventing corruption and strengthening discipline within communist party systems.
