Cambodia Accelerates Infrastructure Development in Takeo Province, Inspects Progress on 3 Rural Roads and Bridges

Minister of Rural Development Inspects Infrastructure Construction Sites in Takeo Province Phnom Penh, September 19, 2026 -- On Saturday morning, September 19, 2026, His Excellency Chhay Rithisen, Minister of Rural Development, along with ministry leaders, technical officials, and staff from the Takeo Provincial Department of Rural Development, inspected the progress of construction on three rural roads and bridges within the geographical area of Takeo Province. The inspected sites included: 1. A construction site for a 3.00 km long, 6-meter wide double bitumen surface treatment (DBST) road, starting from the gate of Phnom Chork Pagoda in Keo Chamroeun village, passing through Chhien Nieng Khpos, to Rulues village, Tang Yab commune, Prey Kabbas district. This road will benefit a total of 421 families, equivalent to 15,505 residents. Implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development, construction began in December 2025 and has currently achieved 85% progress, with completion scheduled for the end of 2026. 2. A construction site for a 6.052 km long, 5-meter wide road with 1-meter shoulders on each side, featuring DBST and concrete pavement, connecting from the Cheung Koung commune hall to Ang Chhoeur village, Cheung Koung commune, Samrong district. This road passes through 6 villages, directly benefiting 1,004 families (4,536 people) and indirectly benefiting 10,074 people. Construction commenced in December 2025 and has reached 53% completion, with an expected finish by the end of 2026. 3. A construction site for a 9.012 km long, 6-meter wide road with 1-meter shoulders on each side, featuring DBST and concrete pavement, connecting National Road No. 2 in Lum Chhant commune, Samrong district, to National Road No. 3 in Oudom Soriyey commune, Tram Kak district. This road traverses 8 villages, directly benefiting 1,684 families (7,522 people) and indirectly benefiting 21,222 people. Construction started in December 2025 and has achieved 85% progress, with completion anticipated by the end of 2026. Roads 2 and 3 are part of the Ministry of Rural Development's "Climate-Resilient Production Chain Development Project (CFVAC)" and are funded by the Royal Government of Cambodia, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the Green Climate Fund. During the event, His Excellency the Minister held discussions with local authorities and residents who are beneficiaries. He informed them about the government's commitment, under the wise leadership of His Excellency Prime Minister Hun Manet, to improving the living standards of the people, especially in rural areas, by enhancing road quality to be resilient to climate change and usable in all seasons. His Excellency advised the contractors to adhere strictly to the ministry's technical standards to ensure the quality of the roads upon completion and handover to the public.
