Dawn Viewing Tragedy at Da Nang's Mui Nghê Leaves Two Missing

A tragic incident occurred at Mui Nghê on the Son Tra Peninsula in Da Nang, central Vietnam, when four out of a group of six young relatives were swept away by waves while watching the sunrise. According to reports, the group of six rode motorcycles about 20 kilometers to Son Tra Peninsula around 4:30 AM, planning to watch the sunrise at Mui Nghê. Mui Nghê, located at the easternmost point of the peninsula, is a challenging area not officially designated for tourism. The group parked their motorcycles near a resort and walked approximately 4 kilometers along a trail, guided by their phone lights. Despite authorities erecting barriers and posting warning signs at unofficial entrances, many still find ways down to the rocky shore. Upon reaching the rocky area before dawn, the group was searching for a vantage point to capture the sunrise. Suddenly, a large wave struck, sweeping three 24-year-old women—Truong Thi Phuong, Tran Thi Anh Duong, and Mai Thi Phuong—into the sea. Witnessing this, 30-year-old Nguyen Thai immediately went to their rescue but was also caught by the waves. The remaining two on shore, 19-year-old Vu Hong Cam and her 20-year-old brother Truong Van Dong, called for help. About 20 minutes later, nearby fishermen heard their cries and alerted rescue forces. Following a diligent search by rescue teams, Nguyen Thai was found after more than two hours and taken to the hospital. Among the three women swept away, Truong Thi Phuong was discovered after more than eight hours, receiving treatment for hypothermia and drowning-induced pneumonia.
