Thanh Hoa Province Responds to Heavy Rains, Floods, and Landslides

Thanh Hoa Province in north-central Vietnam is currently responding to widespread flooding and landslides caused by record-breaking heavy rains that occurred from September 13 to September 16. The province recorded rainfall ranging from 200-350mm, with some areas like Linh Toai, Nga Son, and Tinh Gia experiencing over 434mm. Authorities have proactively evacuated 159 households (604 people) from high-risk areas to safer locations, providing them with essential food and supplies. Despite these measures, 613 households (2,439 people) in communes such as Thach Quang, Thanh Phong, Mau Lam, Bat Mot, and Thanh Vinh remain temporarily isolated due to flooded access roads. However, communication lines are normal, and affected residents have prepared necessary provisions. Floodwaters on the Buoi River have risen, causing inundation in 90 houses in Kim Tan commune, where residents are adopting a "living with floods" approach. Additionally, nearly 800 hectares of rice fields and crops have been submerged. Two houses in Nam Son street, Nghi Son ward, and one house in Chau Loc village, Trieu Loc commune, collapsed due to landslides. A house in Loc Toong hamlet, Trung Ha commune, was affected by falling rocks. Transportation infrastructure has also been severely impacted. Nineteen locations on national and provincial roads are flooded. Landslides have caused blockages on National Highway 15C in Nhi Son and Pu Nhi communes, National Highway 217 in Trung Ha commune and two spots in Quan Son commune, and Provincial Road 519 in Van Xuan commune. On rural roads, eight locations have experienced landslides or damage, and 86 are flooded. However, alternative routes are available in some areas. Functional forces, road management units, and local authorities are currently clearing debris and managing traffic to ensure safety.
