Baguio-Bontoc Road Blocked by Rocks and Fallen Trees in Benguet

BAGUIO CITY — Fallen rocks and trees blocked the Baguio-Bontoc Road in Atok, Benguet, prompting the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to declare the road impassable on Saturday, Sept. 19. DPWH personnel were deployed to clear the road along Kilometer 53, with the Bureau of Fire Protection and municipal responders assisting. This road is a crucial artery connecting Baguio City to the province of Mountain Province, and its closure has caused inconvenience to commuters and disrupted the flow of goods and services. Benguet, being a mountainous province, is susceptible to landslides and rockfalls, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall. The DPWH has assured the public that efforts are underway to clear the debris and restore normal traffic flow as soon as possible. The agency also reminded motorists to exercise caution and seek alternative routes when necessary.
