Coron Ship Fire: Hotlines Opened for Families of Missing Persons

Coron Mayor Marjo Reyes has released contact numbers for people to check on their missing relatives following a fire that engulfed the passenger ship MV June Aster in waters off Coron, Palawan on Wednesday night. The Coast Guard stated that the manifest listed 117 passengers and 17 crew members. To date, five individuals have been reported dead, while 42 others have been rescued. For those wishing to ascertain the status of a family member, relative, or acquaintance they are looking for and who may be admitted to Coron Hospital, the following numbers are available: According to Dr. Alan Guintapan of the Coron Municipal Health Office, out of the 42 rescued individuals, six have been discharged, three are in critical condition, and 33 remain hospitalized. The three in critical condition have been transferred to Culion Sanitarium and General Hospital. Search and rescue operations for the missing passengers are ongoing, spearheaded by the Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection, and the local government of Coron.
