Vietnam Faces Heatwave and Approaching Typhoon on September 1st

On September 1st, mainland Vietnam is expected to see a decrease in rainfall and a return of intense heat. In particular, the northern regions, excluding Dien Bien, Lai Chau, and Son La provinces, are forecast to experience severe heat with the highest temperatures reaching 35-37°C, and in some areas exceeding 37°C. Meanwhile, in the East Sea, a tropical depression is likely to develop into Typhoon No. 5, necessitating caution. This tropical depression is active in the northern waters of the East Sea and is expected to strengthen to a maximum wind speed of 8 Beaufort, with gusts up to 10 Beaufort. In the Central and Southern Highlands, thunderstorms are anticipated from the afternoon into the evening, with the possibility of heavy rainfall in some areas. Along with thunderstorms, there is a risk of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong winds. Vietnam, while pursuing economic growth under its one-party system, is geographically susceptible to the impacts of climate change. In recent years, the country has frequently experienced damage from extreme weather events. The current combination of heatwaves and approaching typhoons could significantly affect agriculture, infrastructure, and people's livelihoods. Specifically, relations between Vietnam and China, while economically intertwined, also face security challenges concerning the South China Sea. The impact of this typhoon on maritime traffic and fisheries could indirectly affect economic activities between the two nations. In Hanoi, sunny and hot weather is expected, with the highest temperature forecast at 35-37°C. Similar heat is anticipated in the Northwest and Northeast regions. In contrast, areas from Thanh Hoa to Hue provinces will experience cloudy skies with intermittent rain, with temperatures remaining between 31-34°C. The South Central Coast will also see sunny spells, but Da Nang city may experience heavy rainfall. In the Central Highlands, thunderstorms are predicted, with the highest temperature at 26-29°C. Southern regions, including Ho Chi Minh City, will also have thunderstorms from the afternoon into the evening, with the highest temperature reaching 30-32°C.
