Cambodia's Information Ministry Directs Nationwide Media to Enhance Digitalization and Professional Ethics

Minister of Information, H.E. Net Pheaktra, has instructed all provincial and municipal media departments across Cambodia to regularly update their information, enhance the quality and professional ethics of their reporting, and protect the integrity and credibility of news. This directive was issued during the official launch ceremony of the "Unified Website of 25 Provincial and Municipal Media Departments" on the morning of September 21, 2026, at the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications. H.E. Net Pheaktra emphasized that websites cannot become useful sources of information if the content is not kept up-to-date. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure that information regarding government activities, local authorities, socio-economic development, public services, and significant local events is disseminated in a timely, accurate, and easily accessible manner for the public. He also stated the need to produce digital content that is attractive, easy to read, understand, and share, suitable for how people consume information in the digital age. However, he cautioned that attractiveness should not come at the expense of accuracy. "We must always remember that fast but inaccurate information cannot build trust. Therefore, the production of digital content must adhere to professional ethics, source verification, and public accountability," he added. In the current environment of rapid information dissemination, H.E. Net Pheaktra stressed the importance of strengthening the capacity to provide true, clear, and verifiable information. He added that the 25 official platforms should serve as sources for the public to seek truth and verify information they encounter on other channels. "We need to let the public know that when they want to find official information, they have a reliable source to depend on. This is about building public trust in the state's information system," he explained. H.E. Net Pheaktra stated that the launch of these 25 websites is not an endpoint but a new beginning. The Ministry of Information will continue to enhance the capacity of media officials at both national and sub-national levels in digital journalism, multimedia content production, digital platform management, and other necessary skills for the technological era. He also mentioned the ministry's plan to study and promote the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve efficiency in content production and management. Furthermore, H.E. Net Pheaktra announced plans to strengthen the connectivity between the 25 websites and the "MoINFO App" to create a more modern, active, synchronized, and responsive state information dissemination network. The goal is for the information system to not only "have a presence on the internet" but also to be "useful for citizens in their daily lives."
