Cambodia Advances 'One Health' Approach for Pandemic Preparedness, Reports Progress at FAO Meeting

Cambodia is actively operationalizing its 'One Health' approach to enhance its preparedness for pandemics. This initiative focuses on strengthening human resources and partnerships essential for preventing, detecting, and responding to health risks before they escalate into major crises. During the FAO Pandemic Fund Meeting held in Rome on September 24, 2026, Dr. Sothyra Tum, Director of the Animal Health and Production Research Institute (APRI), presented the significant achievements of the Cambodia Pandemic Preparedness and Response (CamPPR) project. This project is implemented by the General Directorate of Animal Health and Production (GDAHP) and FAO. Key accomplishments include strengthening preparedness and early warning systems through improved surveillance, risk assessment, emergency planning, and response capabilities. These achievements demonstrate how the 'One Health' principle connects national systems with practical actions at the grassroots level, from surveillance and laboratories to frontline animal health workers and communities. Through ongoing collaboration between the Cambodian government, FAO, development partners, technical institutions, and communities, the CamPPR project is helping to build robust preparedness and response capacities for the health of both people and animals, thereby making Cambodia safer and more resilient.
