Cambodia Boosts 'Made in Cambodia' Exports Amid Rising Local Demand
Cambodia is accelerating efforts to export 'Made in Cambodia' products to international markets, driven by growing domestic consumption. The government is leveraging the CambodiaTrade e-commerce platform to expand global reach for a diverse range of local goods.
PHNOM PENH, July 30, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia is stepping up efforts to bring locally made products to international markets through the CambodiaTrade e-commerce platform, as domestic consumption of Cambodian goods gains momentum, officials said Thursday. Commerce Secretary of State Penn Sovicheat said the ministry is strongly backing the “Made in Cambodia” brand and developed CambodiaTrade to broaden market access. The platform features hundreds of items, including 452 souvenir and handicraft products, 415 food and beverage goods, 217 apparel and leather items, and 216 soap and cosmetic products. Sovicheat said Cambodia is encouraging local creativity and Original Design Manufacturing, noting that products using imported raw materials can still qualify as Cambodian if they generate significant added value domestically. Te Taing Por, president of the Federation of Associations for Small and Medium Enterprises, said Cambodian goods now hold about 30 percent of the local market, boosted by consumer support and a boycott of Thai products. Prime Minister Hun Manet has urged greater reliance on domestic production, saying redirecting even 30 percent of household spending from imports to local goods could provide a major lift to the economy.
