Bavet City Police Arrest 7 Suspects in Building Vandalism and Theft Ring

In Bavet City, Svay Rieng Province, Cambodia, a group of seven individuals, including three women, suspected of breaking into abandoned buildings to steal construction materials and those involved in receiving the stolen goods, have been arrested by the Bavet City Police. The operation to crack down on this aggravated theft crime was conducted over two consecutive days (July 1-2, 2026) under the direct leadership of Major General Pich Virak, Police Commissioner of Svay Rieng Province, with specialized guidance from Colonel Kim Lai, Deputy Police Commissioner in charge of the Criminal Department. Immediately, Colonel Sam Samol, Inspector of Bavet City Police, ordered the specialized force to intervene at the scene, an unoccupied building located in OP Industrial Zone, Bavet Leu Village, Bavet Sangkat, Bavet City. During police interrogation, the seven suspects confessed to breaking into the building to vandalize and steal iron and other materials for sale, and admitted to their involvement in the buying and selling of the stolen goods. During the operation, authorities confiscated items and means of transportation used in the criminal activities, including one tuk-tuk (Phas Ap), two trailer motorcycles, four motorcycles, five mobile phones, a quantity of stolen iron and materials, and one small packet of white powder suspected to be illicit drugs, belonging to a suspect identified as S. Vutthy. Currently, the seven suspects and the confiscated evidence have been processed by the specialized force of the Bavet City Police Inspectorate and sent to the Provincial Court for further legal proceedings. Concurrently, the police force is appealing to all citizens not to vandalize buildings or break down doors and windows, as these actions constitute criminal offenses and will result in legal responsibility.
