Schools Opened Without Teachers in Falam Township

AYEYARWADDY TIMES (Falam), July 27 Schools have been opened in Falam town, Chin State, after the military junta's forces recaptured the town, but teachers are not attending, local residents told Ayeyarwaddy Times. Primary education schools have been reopened in Falam town and some surrounding villages since the first week of July. "Schools have been reopened in the town and some nearby villages. Schools have not yet been opened in most villages. Currently, only schools in villages controlled by soldiers are open," a Falam resident told Ayeyarwaddy Times. It is understood that university entrance exam passers and staff from civil society organizations in the villages are being instructed to teach as replacements, as non-CDM staff are not attending to teach. "Some teachers are hired as replacements and instructed to teach. Villagers are also instructed to have experienced individuals from civil society organizations teach as replacements," a Falam resident told Ayeyarwaddy Times. The majority of students have fled due to fighting, resulting in a low number of students attending school. Currently, although schools are open in Falam township, the military tension continues, and there is a possibility of fighting breaking out at any time.
