Vietnam Shines in Wushu and Swimming at ASIAD 2026

Vietnam's wushu and swimming squads delivered again at ASIAD 2026 on September 23, with Duong Thuy Vi taking bronze in the combined jianshu-qiangshu event while swimmer Vo Thi My Tien punched her ticket to the women's 400m individual medley final. Vietnam’s wushu team is ready to compete at the fourth Wushu Taolu World Cup, scheduled for July 7 and 8 in Haikou city in China’s Hainan province, and is aiming to prove abilities by winning gold. In football, the Vietnamese women's team drew 0-0 with Thailand in their final Group E match at the 2026 Asian Games (ASIAD)’s women's football competition, held on the evening of September 21 at Nagai Stadium in Osaka, Japan. This result saw Vietnam finish second in Group C with four points after the Philippines beat Kuwait 2–1 in the other match, allowing Vietnam to advance from the group stage despite a previous defeat against Uzbekistan. Beyond sports, the promotion of Vietnamese culture is also progressing across various fronts. Deputy PM Pham Thi Thanh Tra stated that people, communities, artists, intellectuals, businesses and young people should be placed at the centre as both participants and creators, as well as direct beneficiaries of cultural achievements during activities marking Vietnam Culture Day. Under Resolution 80-NQ/TW, dated January 7, 2026, November 24 was designated Vietnam Culture Day, to be observed annually. The occasion aims to give the public opportunities to participate in, create and enjoy cultural activities, helping spread positive values and foster pride in Vietnamese culture. Internationally, Vietnamese culture is also being actively promoted. At Ao Dai Fashion Week London 2026, designers, collections, fabrics, craftsmanship and creative interpretations were placed at the heart of the event, showcasing Vietnam’s traditional dress within the language and professional standards of the international fashion industry, rather than simply presenting it as a cultural symbol. Furthermore, Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations in Japan and Singapore demonstrated how community cultural events can help Vietnamese people abroad preserve traditions, strengthen generational bonds, and share Vietnamese culture with local and international communities. These efforts contribute to Vietnam's national interests through both the enhancement of its international presence in sports and the promotion of international understanding through culture.
