The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology announced on August 9 at 8:00 AM that heavy rains are possible in most regions and states, including Yangon Region, from the morning of August 9 to August 12. The announcement stated that this is due to the monsoon being strong in the Andaman Sea and the southern Bay of Bengal, and the influence of a low-pressure area formed in the northern part of Odisha state, connected to the southern part of West Bengal state in India, and the strong development of cumulonimbus clouds. Therefore, it is known from the announcement that in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon Region, Mandalay Region, Bago Region, Magway Region, Sagaing Region, Ayeyarwady Region, Tanintharyi Region, Kachin State, Kayah State, Kayin State, Chin State, Mon State, Rakhine State, and Shan State, thunderstorms are expected to occur in scattered to widespread areas, and heavy rains may occur in isolated areas. The announcement also states that due to heavy rainfall, natural disasters such as strong winds, flash floods, and landslides may occur, so those living near elevated areas should be aware of the risk of landslides, and those living near small rivers and streams should be aware of the risk of floods and inundations. Furthermore, domestic flights, fishing vessels and ships operating in coastal and offshore waters along the Myanmar coast have also been notified and advised to take precautions in advance.
