PNP: No Security Threats for SONA 2026, Tight Security Measures in Place
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has announced that no security threats have been monitored for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s State of the Nation Address (SONA). A nationwide gun ban will not be implemented, with approximately 20,000 police officers deployed for traffic management and protest control.
No security threats have been monitored for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA), the Philippine National Police (PNP) said. According to Super Radyo dzBB's Sam Nielsen, PNP chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said that they remain on full alert and implement tight security measures. The PNP also clarified that there will be no nationwide gun ban for this year's SONA. There were 20,000 cops deployed to manage traffic and protests in Commonwealth Avenue and near Batasang Pambansa. Nartatez will make rounds to inspect the police deployments. He began inspecting the deployment at the EDSA People Power Monument.
