Kyrgyz Economy Faces Risks from Western Sanctions and Russian Slowdown

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has lowered its GDP growth forecast for Kyrgyzstan in 2026. This is due to the EU's first application of its "anti-circumvention tool" aimed at preventing sanctions evasion towards Russia, and concerns over a slowdown in the Russian economy. While the Kyrgyz government claims sanctions are illegal, it is taking steps to manage risks.
