Vietnam Pledges Further Investment in Cambodia, Leaders Agree on Enhanced Economic Ties

Cambodian National Assembly President Khuon Sudary met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung on the afternoon of July 28, 2026, during her official visit to Vietnam. During the meeting, Prime Minister Hung expressed his intention to further promote Vietnamese investment in Cambodia and reaffirmed the deepening of strategic cooperation between the two nations. President Sudary highlighted the Vietnamese leadership's confidence in Cambodia's development goals and emphasized the traditional friendship and good neighborly relations between the two countries. She also called for the steady implementation of agreements reached during the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Summit held in Cambodia in February 2026. Both leaders reiterated their commitment to promoting people-to-people exchanges and bilateral trade by strengthening economic integration, infrastructure connectivity, and security, with the aim of increasing trade volume to $20 billion in the future. Prime Minister Hung informed that he had instructed all relevant ministries to promptly implement the agreements made with Prime Minister Hun Manet and proposed further promoting exchanges between the leaders of the two countries. Vietnam also expressed support for promoting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Cambodia. In terms of trade, the bilateral trade volume between the two countries has been on an upward trend, projected to reach $11.33 billion in 2025 and exceed $12 billion in 2026. Cambodia expressed its readiness to welcome further investment from Vietnam in sectors such as agriculture, education, technology, and innovation. Furthermore, the two countries acknowledged cooperation in human resource development. Vietnam will continue to provide scholarships and training programs for Cambodian students, contributing to the strengthening of Cambodia's human capital. The relevant authorities of both countries will cooperate in timely information sharing and strict measures to combat cross-border crimes such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, and cyber fraud. President Sudary stated Cambodia's determination to strengthen national solidarity and resilience, turning challenges such as aggression from neighboring countries and global wars into opportunities for national development. Prime Minister Hun Manet is promoting economic growth by focusing on human resources and SMEs, aiming to achieve development goals for 2030 and 2050. Gratitude was expressed for Vietnam's support in the peaceful resolution of the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute and its participation in the ASEAN Observers Team (AOT).
