Yangon-Pyay-Yangon railway section to launch modern air-conditioned special passenger train (DEMU) with online ticket purchase via ORTP system

On the Yangon-Pyay-Yangon railway section, modern air-conditioned special passenger trains (DEMU) will commence operations starting July 31. The special passenger train, No. 73, from Yangon to Pyay, and train No. 74, from Pyay to Yangon, will operate as a day trip round trip, and tickets can be purchased online via the ORTP system, it is reported. Preparations have been made for the operation of modern air-conditioned DEMU (Diesel Electric Multiple Unit) trains on the Yangon-Pyay-Yangon railway section, including upgrading the track, clearing illegal crossings and encroachments. Following track and station reinforcement, security checks, and test runs, DEMU trains will begin operating on the Yangon-Pyay-Yangon route starting July 31. Tickets can be purchased online in advance starting July 24, it is reported. Regarding the DEMU train operations on the Yangon-Pyay-Yangon railway section where tickets can be purchased via the ORTP system, Myanmar Railways ORTP Department has announced, "On May 1, 1877, the first railway in Myanmar began its journey from Yangon to a historic city. The route that started at that time was the beginning of Myanmar Railways' history and has been an important route connecting passengers and cities for many years. Now, that historic route will be rediscovered in a more convenient travel format with ORTP." Modern air-conditioned DEMU (Diesel Electric Multiple Unit) trains will operate as a day trip round trip on the Yangon-Pyay-Yangon railway section. The special passenger train No. 73, Yangon to Pyay, will depart from Yangon Station at 5:30 AM and arrive at Pyay Station at 11:30 AM. The special passenger train No. 74, Pyay to Yangon, will depart from Pyay Station at 1:00 PM and arrive at Yangon Station at 7:00 PM. The intermediate stations where the train will stop are Tanyin-gone, Thayarwady, Letpan-tan, Min-hla, Kyauk-pyin-goke, Nat-ta-lin, and Paung-de stations. Each DEMU train set for the special passenger trains No. 73 (upcountry) and No. 74 (downcountry) on the Yangon-Pyay-Yangon route will consist of 2 first-class coaches and 4 second-class coaches, with a total capacity of 66 passengers in first class and 224 passengers in second class, accommodating a total of 290 passengers. The ticket prices for the entire journey will be 20,000 Kyats for first-class coaches and 15,000 Kyats for second-class coaches. The journey time for the entire route will be only 6 hours, making a day trip possible in both directions. Furthermore, tickets for the express trains (air-conditioned) No. 71 (upcountry) and No. 72 (downcountry) currently operating on the Yangon-Pyay railway section will also be available for purchase through the Online Railways Ticketing and Payment System (ORTP), similar to the DEMU trains. Tickets can be purchased up to 7 days in advance for the entire journey and up to 5 days in advance for intermediate stations.
