Vice President says analysis of population dynamics is essential for national development strategy

It is necessary to analyze and implement the current population situation, future projections, and regional population differences strategically in the development of the nation, said Vice President U Nyo Saw. The Vice President said this at the ceremony commemorating the 2026 World Population Day held at the Jade Hall of Myanmar International Convention Centre-1 in Nay Pyi Taw on July 11. Vice President U Nyo Saw said that he was honored to have the opportunity to deliver remarks on behalf of the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar at the World Population Day commemoration ceremony. He stated that this is the 37th time Myanmar has consistently and seriously held World Population Day ceremonies. He added that it is an important opportunity to re-evaluate population change awareness, policies, and practical implementation in line with the current situation, and to implement national long-term development strategies more effectively. He said that the population change process is directly linked to the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations. He stated that poverty reduction, good health, quality education, gender equality, decent job creation, and strengthening social protection systems can only be effectively implemented with a deep understanding of population composition and population change data. Therefore, he said, it is necessary to analyze and implement the current population situation, future projections, and regional population differences strategically in the development of the nation. He further stated that to make accurate decisions, it is necessary to obtain comprehensive and accurate basic information on population and socio-economic conditions in various regions of the country. He said that census, surveys, and statistical systems are vital basic information for future policy formulation, setting investment priorities, improving public services, and drawing up regional development plans. He said that population change can be a challenge for our country, but it can also be an opportunity to strategically reshape the country's future. Therefore, he said, government departments, development partners, scholars, civil society organizations, and the entire public must work together to build a good socio-economic community that is centered on human dignity, based on rights, and is fair and hopeful. After that, Union Minister U Myint Kyi of the Ministry of Immigration and Population explained the population change process in Myanmar, and the animation clip commemorating the 2026 World Population Day was shown. It is known that the ceremony was attended by Vice President Daw Nan Ni Ni Aye, Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw U Khin Maung Oo, Speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw U Aung Lin Dway, Union-level officials, Union Ministers, Chairman of the Nay Pyi Taw Council, Deputy Ministers, diplomats from foreign embassies based in Myanmar, representatives from UN-related organizations, and specially invited guests.
