4 killed in clash between military and BIFF gunmen in BARMM town

COTABATO CITY — At least four armed men were killed during air and artillery attacks that began around 9 a.m. on Saturday in Tugunan town, within the Bangsamoro region’s Special Geographic Area. Tugunan Mayor Abdullah Abas said the slain armed men were linked to kidnapping, carnapping, and murder. He added that among the armed men that were killed were those who were responsible for the crime in the area. According to Abas, the military offensive was in response to the alleged criminal activities of the group. "The military operation is part of our continuous effort to maintain peace and order in our town and to curb the activities of these criminal elements," Abas said. The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has been grappling with security challenges posed by various armed groups, including the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and its factions, which have been involved in various criminal and extremist activities.
