Passenger boat and rice-laden vessel collide and sink in Twante Canal, one crew member swept away and missing

A collision between a passenger boat and a rice-laden vessel occurred near mile 20 of the Twante Canal in Twante Township, Yangon Region, resulting in the sinking of the boat. One crew member has been swept away and is missing, according to the Twante Township Auxiliary Fire Brigade. The passenger boat, "Zaw Min Myat 1," which was navigating within the Twante Canal, became entangled with a rice-laden vessel and collided, subsequently sinking. Around 9:36 PM on July 4th, the passenger boat "Zaw Min Myat 1," while navigating the Twante Canal, collided with a rice-laden vessel around 9:36 PM on July 4th and sank. A total of 32 people were on board the sunken vessel "Zaw Min Myat 1." Among them, 31 passengers and crew members were able to evacuate to safety in time without sustaining any injuries. Those who were evacuated to safety included 8 men, 15 women, and 8 crew members. However, one remaining male crew member was swept away with the current and is missing, it was learned. "As soon as we received the report, a fire engine from the Twante Township Fire Station, along with active firefighters, immediately proceeded to carry out rescue operations," an official involved in the rescue efforts told the Ayeyarwaddy Times. To search for the missing person, firefighters and social rescue teams made efforts to search within the river until 11 PM yesterday.
