DoJ Remits P841-M Recovered from Flood Control Probe to National Treasury

The Department of Justice (DoJ) on Wednesday said it had remitted P841.38 million recovered from people linked to the government’s flood control investigation to the National Treasury, while vowing to continue recovering public funds tied to the anomalies. The DoJ said the amount was deposited through Land Bank of the Philippines. “The work continues. We will recover the people’s money,” it said in a statement. The agency also said it would work with the Office of the Ombudsman while respecting its constitutional mandate over the investigation. “We respect absolutely the constitutional mandate of the Office of the Ombudsman,” it said. “Where the law places a case in our hands, we will build it to the standards that stand in court.” The statement came after President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. said in his fifth State of the Nation Address on Monday that investigations into anomalies in the government’s flood control program would continue and that those responsible would be held accountable. — Mark Joseph M.
