Two Suspects Arrested with AK-47 for Illegal Poaching in Mondulkiri Protected Area
Two men suspected of illegal poaching were arrested with an AK-47 rifle and ammunition in Mondulkiri province's protected area. The suspects, identified as members of the local indigenous Phnong community, were apprehended during an illegal hunting attempt and are now facing legal proceedings.
Mondulkiri Province: On July 26, 2024, park rangers from the Mondulkiri Provincial Department of Environment arrested two suspects and confiscated an AK-47 rifle with 8 bullets, along with other evidence. The individuals were apprehended for illegally entering the Sre Pok Wildlife Sanctuary to hunt wildlife, an act that took place at O'Angheng, located in Pu Rapet village, Krang Teay commune, Pich Chenda district, Mondulkiri province. The two suspects were identified as Khvash Nan, male, 51 years old, and Sophi Sot, male, 48 years old. Both are indigenous Phnong people residing in Krang Teay commune, Pich Chenda district, Mondulkiri province. Currently, the suspects have been taken in for questioning by specialized officers, and a case file is being compiled for submission to the Mondulkiri Provincial Court for legal proceedings.
