Cambodian People's Party Welcomes 552 New Members in Phnom Penh

The Cambodian People's Party (CPP) held a ceremony on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at the CPP headquarters in Phnom Penh to welcome 552 new members into the party. Khuong Sreng, a member of the CPP Central Committee and Chairman of the CPP Phnom Penh Municipal Committee, stated that the decision by the 552 individuals to join the CPP was a correct one. Sreng highlighted the CPP's historical sacrifices in liberating the nation from the Khmer Rouge regime and rebuilding the country from scratch. He emphasized the party's commitment to resolving border issues and protecting national territorial integrity, assuring that the party would not abandon citizens in times of hardship. He also praised the "heroism" of former Prime Minister Hun Sen, who he said sacrificed his youth and life to liberate the nation from the Khmer Rouge, restore it from nothing, and develop it to its current state. Sreng mentioned that under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet, who is continuing the legacy, Cambodia aims to become an upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050. Sreng urged citizens to trust the government led by Prime Minister Hun Manet, who is dedicating his efforts to maintaining peace, stability, territorial integrity, and national sovereignty. He specifically addressed the Cambodia-Thailand border issue, noting that it is being resolved through a "quiet but not silent" strategy, utilizing international law and diplomacy to minimize impact on the people and society. This strategy, he claimed, has garnered international attention by clearly demonstrating Thai incursions into Cambodian territory. Finally, Sreng called for unity behind Prime Minister Hun Manet, stating that a united Cambodia will become a strong, high-income nation by 2050. He encouraged each new member to become a vote for the CPP in the upcoming 2027-2028 elections to further contribute to the nation's development and prosperity.
