Cambodia Joins ASEAN Smart Cities Network Annual Meeting, Pushing Digitalization for Urban Development

Suo Varine, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the national representative of Cambodia to the ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN), participated in the 9th ASCN Annual Meeting on the morning of July 20, 2026, via a virtual video conference. The meeting was organized by the Philippines, the 2026 ASEAN Chair. Also in attendance were leaders from the General Department of Administration, representatives from the administrations of Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Battambang, and Sihanoukville provinces, as well as directors from departments of provincial, municipal, district, commune, and village administration, the Department of Functions and Resources, and numerous other relevant officials. During the 9th ASCN Annual Meeting via virtual video conference, Suo Varine emphasized that Cambodia continues to strengthen its smart city agenda in line with national development priorities. This is achieved by coordinating with relevant ministries and institutions to promote the use of digital technology in urban development, focusing on good governance and innovation. The aim is to enhance the provision of administrative and public services, making them more responsive, resilient, sustainable, and inclusive, with a strong focus on the people. This annual meeting serves as a crucial platform for ASEAN member states to share progress on their smart city initiatives and discuss future collaborations. Cambodia's participation underscores its commitment to leveraging digital transformation for improved urban management, enhanced citizen services, and sustainable economic growth within the ASEAN framework.
