Ho Chi Minh City Streamlines Administration via Decentralization for Enhanced Public Service

In Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's economic powerhouse second only to the capital Hanoi, moves are underway to enhance administrative efficiency and improve public services. On September 25, Chairman of the National Assembly Standing Committee Tran Thanh Man presided over a meeting of the inspection and supervision team No. 220 from the Central Politburo and Secretariat with the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee. During this meeting, a draft report on the results of the third inspection and supervision of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee was deliberated. This inspection and supervision aims for the central government to assess the work execution capabilities of local governments and to expedite and enhance administrative processes. Decentralization is intended to accelerate decision-making and improve problem-solving capacity at the grassroots level. This is expected to simplify bureaucratic procedures and allow citizens and businesses to access administrative services more easily and quickly. Under Vietnam's one-party system, such administrative reforms are positioned as crucial elements for sustaining economic growth and improving the living standards of the people. The current inspection and supervision of Ho Chi Minh City suggests that the efficiency of its administrative operations is particularly emphasized, given the city's role as a driver of Vietnam's economy and its significant function in external economic relations. Amidst complex relations with China, strengthening the domestic economic base and maintaining social stability are among the top priorities for the Vietnamese government.
