4 ex-bodyguards of Zaldy Co face arrest for cyberlibel, post bail

Four out of 18 former bodyguards of ex-lawmaker Zaldy Co were issued arrest warrants and subsequently arrested by the San Juan City police due to a cyberlibel case filed against them. However, the group was able to secure their release by posting bail on the same day. San Juan City Chief of Police Col. Anthony Gantang confirmed the arrests directly to DZBB. The arrests were made while the four ex-bodyguards were present at the Hall of Justice in San Juan City, reportedly facing another legal matter. Each of the four individuals paid a bail of P10,000 for the cyberlibel complaint, allowing them to walk free by 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The former bodyguards, who have also been referred to as 'maleta boys,' gained public attention for claims of making cash deliveries for Co and several other prominent personalities. This cyberlibel case is part of a larger legal entanglement. In separate proceedings, at least 10 other former bodyguards have been arrested on charges of perjury. Notably, four out of the 18 bodyguards have since recanted their testimonies and expressed a desire to remain silent.
