Sara Duterte, husband's bank records submitted to impeachment court

Six banks have submitted the bank records of Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, Atty. Manases Carpio, as required by the Senate impeachment court, the House prosecution panel announced on Friday. The prosecution panel had earlier asked the Senate impeachment court to issue a subpoena for the documents, stating its intention to present them as evidence in support of allegations of unexplained wealth against the Vice President. "As far as we know, the banks that have submitted the bank records of the Vice President and her husband are BDO, BPI, Philippine Savings Bank, Metrobank, LandBank, and Security Bank. These records are now under the custody of the impeachment court and are undergoing the inventory and security procedures outlined by the court itself," private prosecutor and spokesperson Atty. Benjamin Tolosa Jr. said during a press conference. "The court has already made it clear that it will not yet discuss the contents of these documents. It will first complete the inventory [and] establish the chain of custody, and in the case of AMLC (Anti-Money Laundering Council) records, conduct the required in-camera review before the documents are released to the parties. This is exactly how due process works," he added. Tolosa said the impeachment court is "not rushing things" and is ensuring the integrity of the evidence. "We respect that. What is important now is that these pieces of evidence are in the custody of the impeachment court. We have to emphasize that we will compare these documents with the SALN (Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth) declarations of our public officials," Tolosa said. "These bank records will be able to verify [whether] the SALN entries of the Vice President are accurate, and we look forward to finally presenting this evidence in court," Tolosa added. During the House justice panel’s deliberations on the impeachment complaints filed against the Vice President, SALN submissions from the Office of the Ombudsman showed that Duterte, in her joint SALN filings with her husband, did not declare any cash on hand or cash in bank from 2019 to 2024. -VBL, GMA News
