Vietnam Suggests Leveraging US-Based Intellectual Resources for National Development

Vietnam's Party General Secretary and President To Lam has expressed the idea of leveraging the knowledge and experience of Vietnamese experts residing in the United States for the country's development. This was stated in the context of deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the US, emphasizing the importance of building trust and strengthening cooperation between the two nations. The President indicated a welcoming stance towards contributions to the homeland, even from afar, and highly values such efforts. This proposal highlights Vietnam's approach of integrating domestic and international human resources to achieve comprehensive national development. Under Vietnam's one-party system, there is a tendency to emphasize the contributions of each citizen in national development strategies. In particular, the Vietnamese community residing abroad is seen as playing a significant role in economic, technological, and academic aspects. Furthermore, the article reports on concrete steps to strengthen Vietnam-US relations, including agreements for additional US funding for dioxin remediation at Bien Hoa Air Base and support for people with disabilities. These can be seen as demonstrating the two countries' commitment to overcoming the legacies of past conflicts and building a future-oriented relationship. Additionally, Vietnam is advancing plans to link its national digital identification application, VNeID, with the electronic identification systems of Singapore and Laos, with a view to expanding this connection to other ASEAN countries in the future. This indicates Vietnam's ambition to promote digitalization and strengthen regional integration. Meanwhile, domestic challenges are also reported, such as the Prime Minister's demand for a serious review regarding the inadequate supply of textbooks and the impact of floods, suggesting the social issues that Vietnam faces alongside its economic growth.
