Three men arrested for selling police officer as fisherman, charged under multiple laws

Three men who abducted a police officer assigned to security at the Mon State Hluttaw with the intention of selling him as a fisherman have been charged under four sections of the Penal Code, including the Anti-Human Trafficking Law, it has been learned. According to reports, the incident occurred around 4:30 PM on June 19, when Police Sergeant Zaw Win Htun, a member of the police force assigned to security at the Mon State Hluttaw in Mawlamyine city, went to pay respects at the Naga Mauk Pagoda on Taung Yoe Tan Hill in Mawlamyine city. While sitting alone on the pagoda platform, three unidentified men approached him and asked him to accompany them. When Police Sergeant Zaw Win Htun explained that he could not go as he was a police officer, one of the three men said, "What police? I am a Major," and slapped Police Sergeant Zaw Win Htun twice on the ear before forcibly restraining and abducting him. It is reported that the man claiming to be a Major then rode a motorcycle, with another man sitting behind him, and they were taken to Kyaukme city in Thanbyuzayat Township, with the remaining man following separately on another motorcycle. Around 8 PM, they were forcibly taken to the home of a fisherman broker named Tin Zar Lwin in Kyaukme city. Subsequently, when Police Sergeant Zaw Win Htun demanded the advance payment of 1.2 million kyats that the man claiming to be a Major and his group had instructed him to pay, Tin Zar Lwin sensed something was wrong and directed Police Sergeant Zaw Win Htun to the Kyaukme police station. Upon arriving at the police station, Police Sergeant Zaw Win Htun informed the responsible officials of the incident. Following this, a team led by Police Officer San Ko Ko U, the station chief of the Kyaukme territorial police station, went to investigate the home of the fisherman broker Tin Zar Lwin. There, they found Tin Than in possession of a soldier recruitment verification card (for the Army Recruitment Unit (Mawlamyine) under the name of Tin Than, which is currently being examined to determine if it is forged or genuine), along with a HONDA CLICK 125 motorcycle with license plate 82Ya/75826 and a HONDA WAVE 110 motorcycle with license plate 35Ya/34784. They were then arrested and taken to the territorial police station in Kyaukme city at 9:15 PM. It has been reported that Tin Than, aged 51, residing in the Butagyi compound, Myenigone Ward, Mawlamyine city; Tin Min Htut, aged 46, residing in Zawgone village, Kyain village tract, Mawlamyine city; and Phyo Ko Ko, aged 38, residing in the Butagyi compound, Myenigone Ward, Mawlamyine city, have been charged at the Kyaukme territorial police station under sections 170/332/342/114 of the Penal Code in case (Pa) 33/2026, and are being investigated under sections 36/44 of the Anti-Human Trafficking Law in case (Pa) 32/2026.

    It has been reported that an incident occurred in Mawlamyine City where a police officer on security duty for the Mon State Parliament was abducted with the intention of selling him as a fisherman. Around 4:30 PM on June 19, Police Constable Zaw Win Htun, who was on security duty for the Mon State Parliament in Mawlamyine City, went to pay respects at the Naga Mauk Pagoda on Taung Gu Mountain. While sitting alone on the pagoda terrace, three unknown men approached him and asked him to accompany them. Police Constable Zaw Win Htun explained that he could not go as he was a police officer. However, one of the three men said, "What police? I am a Major," and then struck Police Constable Zaw Win Htun twice on the ear and forcibly restrained and took him away. Subsequently, the man who claimed to be a Major drove a motorcycle, with another man riding pillion, and they were taken away. The remaining man followed separately on another motorcycle. They were taken to Kyaukkhamee Town in Thanbyuzayat Township. Around 8:00 PM, they were forcibly taken to the house of Ma Tin Zar Lwin, a fisherman broker in Kyaukkhamee Town. Later, Police Constable Zaw Win Htun demanded the advance payment of 1.2 million kyats, which the group including the self-proclaimed Major had instructed him to pay. Ma Tin Zar Lwin sensed something was wrong and directed Police Constable Zaw Win Htun to the Kyaukkhamee Police Station. Police Constable Zaw Win Htun went to the police station and informed the authorities about the incident. Subsequently, at approximately 8:45 PM, a team led by Police Inspector San Ko Ko U, the station chief of the Kyaukkhamee Township Police Station, went to the house of the fisherman broker Ma Tin Zar Lwin to investigate. There, they found and interrogated three individuals: Tin Than, 51, residing in the Butagyi Ward, Mye Nyi Kone Ward, Mawlamyine City; Tin Min Htut, 46, residing in Zaw Kone Village, Kyain Village-tract, Mawlamyine City; and Phyo Ko Ko, 38, residing in the Butagyi Ward, Mye Nyi Kone Ward, Mawlamyine City. During the interrogation, along with the three men, a HONDA CLICK 125 motorcycle with license plate 82/75826, a HONDA WAVE 110 motorcycle with license plate 35/34784, and a verification card for the duty of recruiting new soldiers (assistant) from the Army Recruitment Force Office (Mawlamyine) in the name of U Tin Than (this card is currently being examined to determine if it is forged or genuine) were found. The three men were taken to the Township Police Station in Kyaukkhamee Town and are currently being investigated in cooperation with the Anti-Human Trafficking Police Force Unit (Mawlamyine), according to reports.
