Prabowo Leads Disaster Response Meeting: Natural Disasters are 'Our Destiny'
President Prabowo Subianto has directed the handling of multiple simultaneous disasters across Indonesia, including the NTT earthquake, Anak Krakatau volcano eruption, and forest fires. He described the nation's location on the Pacific Ring of Fire as 'our destiny' and called for strengthening the government's preparedness.
President Prabowo Subianto led an emergency response meeting on September 7, 2026, to address the simultaneous natural disasters occurring across various regions of Indonesia. The meeting received reports on the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau, and ongoing forest and land fires (karhutla) in several areas. Speaking via video conference from the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, the President emphasized the need to monitor the latest conditions in affected areas and to enhance the government's response capabilities. "We are currently facing multiple disaster situations simultaneously. This is our destiny as a nation located on the Pacific Ring of Fire. This means we must always be prepared for such eventualities. This will also be a lesson for the government I lead," Prabowo stated, highlighting the importance of disaster preparedness and mitigation strategies in light of Indonesia's geographical characteristics. Attending the meeting were the Minister of State Secretary, the Cabinet Secretary, and the Head of the Defense Logistics Agency of the Ministry of Defense. The government aims for a swift and effective response to these complex disaster events. Source: Liputan6
