Luang Namtha Flooding Causes Over 4.195 Trillion Kip in Damage

Extensive damage to infrastructure, government property, homes, and personal assets has been reported following severe flooding in Laos' northern Luang Namtha province, with estimated losses exceeding 4.195 trillion Lao kip (approximately $570 million USD). The disaster affected five districts: Luang Namtha, Sing, Long, Viengphoukha, and Nalae. A total of 81 villages, representing 23.14 percent of all villages in the province, were impacted. The flooding affected 4,420 households and 24,849 people, with 457 households suffering severe impacts and 12 houses being swept away. Damage to public infrastructure and government property has further complicated recovery efforts in the affected communities.
